Texans Cuts:
Some of the names of players that will be cut are trickling in. We’ll be posting the names of those players here.
K – Kris Brown
Kris was the last “original Texan” from the inaugural season. Mr. Consistency for the first 7 seasons, he missed several critical kicks during the 2009 campaign.
RB- Chris Henry
Always impressive in camp as a physical body, he was never able to show the skills or awareness to cut it on the field during a game. With Arian Foster the only healthy running back on the team, this speaks volumes about Henry’s lack of ability.
CB – Jaques Reeves
A memory of a time when the Texans still had to over pay to get free agents. Reeves was much maligned for his ability to completely blanket a receiver yet inexplicably never have the awareness to look back for the ball.
QB – John David Booty
Third string on the depth chart. ”J.D.” suffered from a sore shoulder and didn’t practice much in the final weeks of camp. Booty lacks the physical skills of Orlovsky and Schaub. We think he still has practice squad eligibility and very well could end up there.
RB Jeremiah Johnson
Cutting Jeremiah Johnson could be risky. He looked very impressive in the pre-season I’m wondering if the significance of his toe injury is more serious than we thought. Even if he’s expect to be out 3 weeks or so, (speculation) then Foster, Ward, Slaton, and Johnson is a solid stable. Johnson would be inactive on game day’s until healthy in that scenario but he’s also insurance down the road for Slaton and Ward. Both Steve Slaton and Derrick Ward are unanswered question marks based on Slaton’s injury and Wards recent performance. Perhaps the cut to practice squad approach is not as risky as it seems.
From what I’ve seen Johnson could make plenty of rosters in this league. Of course we haven’t really seen him pass protect
DL Malcolm Sheppard
One of the most notable cuts. Sheppard is very similar in build and playing style to 3rd round pick Earl Mitchell. He has looked explosive off the line at times but inconsistent overall. There was a possibility that he could make the final roster but Antonio Smith’s ability to slide inside and the growth of Connor Barwin at DE means that the team will be able to keep less DT’s on the roster. Expect to find him on the practice squad unless someone from the other 31 teams is smart enough to snatch this guy up. He is worth a roster spot on many teams in the NFL.
C Chris White
Another notable cut, White signifies that the coaching staff clearly gets it as he was one of the worst performing players during the pre-season. Biscuit Brisiel performed well as a backup center in week 1 of the pre-season. The Texans also have significant center depth along the interior offensive line. Wade Smith (LG), Brisiel, Shelly Smith (who has not been cut as of 9/3/10) all have experience playing center.
DL DelJuan Robinson
FB Jack Corcoran
WR Bobby Williams
WR Derrick Townsel
TE Derek Fine
OL Adam Stenavich
OL Steve Maneri
OL Cole Pemberton
C Brett Helms
DL Mitch Unrein
LB Will Patterson
LB Isaiah Greenhouse
DB Mark Parson
DB Torri Williams
As we find out more cuts we’ll be adding them to the list. Check back often for updates.

I’m surprised about DelJuan. I thought he looked pretty good.
It was inevitable. For reasons I’m not privy to, Deljuan entered the doghouse early last season and never worked his way out of it.
