Alright. It’s five days before another big game. I know we are 5-7 and things are bleak and dreary in Texan land. I have already written articles concluding that the head coach should be dismissed at the end of the season and pointing to a number of fatal flaws this team has. However, there are signs of hope, if one is desperate enough to look for them. After the game Monday night, we have three very, very winnable games. By the way, 9-7 will almost definitely get us into the playoffs… and, as division winners, no less! Wouldn’t that be a kick in the pants? By the end of this article, it is my goal to have the Texan fan base hysterically excited for the game Monday and exceedingly hopeful for the season’s prospects. To me, a great sports fan is one that is educated but still able to slip into a hopeful mindset (at least for a couple hours each week)… Now, I realize this is a tall order, so I’ll begin by quoting a few great works of art (well, some of them are great). I ask only that you meditate on these for at least five minutes a day up until gametime Monday night:

Paul, in the letter to the Phillipian Church, called “hope” a fruit of the spirit. Let us rise above our disappointment and frustration for one more night and elevate ourselves. Of course this is only a football game and of relatively little significance, but, if you are reading our obnoxious blog, then this team probably does occupy your thoughts and emotions at a fairly high level. So, instead of apologizing for our priorities being misplaced or acknowledging the insignificance of something we are passionate for, how about we take an opportunity to allow the Texans to make us just a little bit better men and women. Hope in the face of despair and bitterness: that has to be a good thing, right?
For the analytical minds, if the Texans finish 4-0, they would have a better division record than Jacksonville and Tennessee. Depending on how Indy finishes, the Texans would either have an identical division record or a better one. However, the Texans would win the next tiebreaker versus Indy (record vs. common opponents). So, for the Texans to win the division, they need only finish in a tie for first place. Practically, that means the Colts must lose one of their next four games and the Jags must lose one of their next three games. If, the Colts and Jags lose one game between now and week 17, and the Texans win their next three (Baltimore, at Tennessee, at Denver), then the Texans would be hosting the Jaguars for the AFC South division crown. Imagine how exciting Monday night would be if the Colts lose at Tennessee and/or Jacksonville loses at Oakland on Sunday? Just some food for thought.
Go Texans! and Tennessee and Oakland!

My concern is not that our division rivals won’t fail, it’s that the Texans WILL
