UPDATE:

It has been reported by PFT that Derrick Ward is scheduled to visit with the Texans today.

Jeremiah Johnson has a dislocated toe according to a tweet from @HoustonTexans Gary Kubiak was quoted as saying “It looks like he’s going to miss some time.“.

How much time is “some time”? Chris Henry looked just better than bad only because he actually saw two cutback lanes.  He looked bad in pass protection.  Johnson’s 3 carries netted 20 yards. He looked very good and has all pre-season.

How will the Texans respond?  Slaton has an injured toe as well. Arian Foster and Chris Henry are the only two running backs on the roster that are healthy.  By default Henry has to make the team at least for now.  Henry and Foster would be the only heathly running backs on the team to have taken any snaps when, not if, the Texans bring in another running back.

You can bet the Texans will be crossing their fingers that Ryan Moats doesn’t make the cut in Minnesota.   At least he knows the playbook.  Derrick Ward was cut by Tampa Bay earlier this week as was Justin Fargas in Denver.  I know, I know, he was in Denver.  It’s not Houston north anymore but he has to be a candidate.

Which toe is not known at this time.

According to the Texans Bull Blog resident physician:

Even though you immediately think of the great toe, no one has identified which toe was involved.

With a dislocated great toe, you can expect about 3 weeks before a supported shoe can allow possible return to action. That’s taking for granted that there are no significant associated injury such as displaced fracture. They’ll need to x-ray/MRI the toe joint before there can be a final disposition.

qualifier:

Pain can be a significant factor to return, and that return to action does not equate to return to preinjury performance. Chronicity in these type of injuries cannot be ruled out.

Should Johnson miss as many as 3 weeks the Texans will be running on fumes at the RB position by week four when they head to Oakland to take on the Raiders.

Let us know who you think the Texans could be looking at as the cuts roll in.
